Doheny Mansion

The Doheny Mansion is a distinguished historic landmark which has garnered significant national and international media attention. Built by architects Theodore Eisen and Sumner Hunt for the Oliver P. Posey family in 1899, the mansion was purchased in 1901 by the pioneering oil baron, Edward L. Doheny. Both lavish and eclectic in its design and furnishings, the Doheny Mansion features a facade incorporating Gothic, English Tudor, and even California Mission styles.

Left to the stewardship of Mount St. Mary’s College, the Doheny Mansion and all of the surrounding properties on historic Chester Place today form the College’s downtown campus.
